Hello! Yes, I’m reintroducing an old character so I can parse some thoughts on death. (As many of you know, my own husband passed away a year and a quarter ago. It’s the worst thing that ever happened to me, but it’s also a strange experience I want to write about.) I’ll do my best to keep it funny and relatable.
Have you ever apologized to someone just because the state of your life made them uncomfortable?
Unrelated note, this comic is late because last week I was finishing up the artwork for a new t-shirt for CHIRP Radio’s spring fundraising drive! You can get a this shirt by making a donation to the station to keep it going strong. As many of you know, indie radio and comics are my two passions, and they come together in this shirt. You can make a donation at donatetochirp.tonybreed.com
Wow — I had no idea. I’m so sorry to hear about your husband’s passing. And I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts on the experience. I love the strip, and I love that you use it to explore issues that are important to you.
hugs bro
I’m really glad that you’re doing it – for selfish reasons, mostly. I know this is going to be a poignant and powerful arc. I hope that it’s a powerful and maybe cathartic experience creating it.
And to answer your question, Tony: pretty frequently. I usually don’t have the presence of mind to stop myself from apologizing (sometimes people around me catch it for me 🙂 ). So more power to Jaime!
Wow, I see myself sounding a lot like Jaime if my huz were to pass: “This really interesting. . terrible, terribly interesting thing happened to me. Let me tell you what it’s like.”
I’m relieved I’m not the only person (cartoon, whatever) that would react similarly.
Just caught up to this point but didn’t want to comment on the strip where you announced it since that was a while ago. I’m terribly sorry for your loss, and I hope your life is going well. (appropriate gesture of support)
