Another Kickstarter cameo this week! This time it’s Bob McDiarmid as the man selling roses.
This week’s comic is totally unrealistic. When I’m with another man I am always completely invisible to flower sellers. When I’m out with a woman, it’s another story.
Anyway, WHAT IF, I said. And here’s where I went with that.
Flower seller’s calculation:
If those two men are a couple, I might be able to sell them a few flowers.
If they’re not, and I offer to sell them flowers for each other, and either of them is a homophobe, they’ll probably beat me up.
Of course, the seller might reduce the risk by saying something like, “Would either of you like to buy flowers for a special someone?” without hinting they suspected the guys might be a couple. I don’t know if that would be better or worse than being ignored.
Homophobia sucks.
They might not approach gay couples in part because it’s difficult to tell if two men out together are a romantic couple, two friends, brothers/family, or having a business outing. *shrug* Just a thought. LOL
But just imagine the thousand ways WRONG approaching two straight men who may not appreciate a suggestion they’re romantically involved can go.
I say this, because even when I’m out with my gay male friends (including, sometimes, up to 3 couples), *I* wouldn’t know those couples *are* couples just on a casual observation, like what a flower-seller would be making. To anyone who doesn’t *know* this is a gay square dance group that includes men who are married to each other, we all just look like a bunch of friends. 6-10 people around a line of tables pushed together look like 6-10 friends, even if most of them happen to be male, especially since it’s not really socially acceptable for gay couples (male OR female) to indulge in PDA.
Just my take. *shrug*
